Some Of The Story So Far
(Last updated 3/9/2006)
Born in Invercargill NZ, in 1970, Jeremy's career as a musical artist, performer and songwriter now spans three decades.
Based in Christchurch in the late '80s, he joined and formed several
bands playing as both a drummer and singer/songwriter guitarist. Jeremy
was involved in numerous EP recordings (the first of which was paid for
by painting the roof of the studio owners house) before joining punk
popsters Squirm as keyboard player.
Squirm toured NZ promoting their second album released by independent
label Failsafe. This opened the door for improvisational art punk
outfit Voodoo Hex to tour the South Island, with Jeremy as singer
guitarist .
A connection formed during this tour which saw Jeremy move to the West coast of the south island where he recorded a collection of electro acoustic and ambient tracks in the caves and on the beaches of the area. On return to Christchurch Jeremy took cello and piano lessons which opened the door to new compositional ideas. He went to university to acquire the prerequisites to study composition, which he gained. While there he became involved with the student musical society, playing guitar in their stage band before moving on to work as a guitarist with a local theatre company. During this time he composed music for wind quintet, cello and flute duets, choral music, and piano pieces.
He
also illustrated and produced a short animated film, used in the music
video for a single from the 1998 album Deeper. Jeremy joined the
Playback Theatre Company, where he worked as an actor and musician,
performing and touring in NZ. Through these connections he co-composed
the opening song for an international conference of Pacific rim
nations. Promoting the 1999 independent release of solo acoustic album
Both Feet Down Jeremy made his first solo tour of NZ.
Relocating to Melbourne in 2000 Jeremy recorded and released the solo
acoustic EP Sackville Off Gold, and performed extensively around
Melbourne and in regional VIC. 2004 saw the release of Primary Jet Men.
Jeremy is on the brink of a career first, about to release 2 new albums. Level Up is the Folk-Jazz-Electronica evolution from 2004's Alternative-Folk-Pop release Primary Jet Men . _shrine is a collection of ambient-meditation tracks to be released under the pseudonym golden_boy . The 21 st century has seen Jeremy divert away from the hectic performing schedule which defined the 90's for him, to focus more in the studio. These up coming releases will mark a new phase. Aside from his own artistic work Jeremy also produces for several artists including Tom Bolton and Cathy Tran working in collaboration with her U.S. posse. This producer role is complemented by his work as a teacher of Singer Songwriting.
